The March Ranch represents a rare offering of a large ranch in an area where very few large ranches become available.
The March Ranch was founded in 1899 and has remained in the same family since that time. At one time, the March Ranch encompassed over 46,000 acres. This parcel represents the northwest portion of the ranch.
The ranch is located approximately 20 miles northwest of San Angelo in southern Coke County with access being provided by March Road, a well maintained asphalt and caliche road that terminates at the ranch entrance.
Terrain on the ranch is diverse ranging from rolling hills, creek bottoms and draws, rugged hills, level divide country and open grasslands. The ranch is entirely native pasture and brush species on the ranch are native to the region. An aggressive brush control program has been implemented the last several years and a portion of the ranch has been cleared of invasive brush species. The remainder of the ranch has a moderate to heavy cover of brush.
The West Fork of Grape Creek traverses through the central portion of the ranch. For the most part, this is a wet weather creek; however, there are intermittent holes of water in the northern portion of the ranch. This area of the creek is surrounded by a huge grove of pecan trees, many of them very large creating a unique habitat that is much different from the surrounding countryside.
Water is provided by nine water wells. Five of the wells are equipped with windmills, three are equipped with solar pumps and one is equipped with an electric pump. A well located at the headquarters pumps water into a dirt tank.
Improvements on the ranch are modest and include two small houses used to house hunters, a cinderblock barn, steel set of livestock pens and other outbuildings.
The ranch has a very health population of white-tailed deer and rio grande turkey in addition to blue and bobwhite quail, javelina, hogs and varmints.
The March Ranch is a reputation ranch in the San Angelo area. If you are in the market for a large ranch with excellent hunting and ranching opportunities, then the March Ranch deserves your attention.
