Our older generations share many fond memories of going to the picture show to be excited by the daring of heroes like the Lone Ranger and Tom Mix or fall in love (or envy) with stars like Marilyn Monroe and Humphrey Bogart. News reels shown before the feature film gave the audience their only real glimpse of world eventsvery important during WWII. Whether you used a nickel from your allowance for a summer afternoon matinee or took your best girl on Saturday night, everyone who went to the movie theater contributed to making it an important piece of Americana. Time has stolen the prominence of the picture show in small town society but the beautiful old building remains on the Goldthwaite town square across the street from the Mills County Courthouse as a nostalgic reminder. The decay of yesterday has been stripped away and cleaned up. Its bones have been reworked to make sure it will last thru several more decades. The graceful stone arches still frame the wide entrance portico. The full glass windows and antique style double doors look original but are new and display the interior of the building. The original floors have been replaced with concrete and the electrical conduit and plumbing were stubbed into the pad. The old crumbling mortar between the stones forming the exterior walls was chipped away and expertly replaced. Thick wooden beams were installed across the building to reinforce and stabilize the structure. The building also received a new roof that is still under warranty. The wooden ceiling is original. Please consider also that the rear of the property faces the new Legacy Plaza, a Texas Botanical Garden & Native American Interpretive Center. (The Gardens are a living museum that will feature native plant species used by the prehistoric peoples living in this region 10-12,000 years ago.) The framework is in place to house your business and is ready to be completed to suit your purposes.
