Home Description:

It is pier-and-beam foundation with brick veneer siding. A 2013 home inspection found the foundation and house structure to be in very stable condition.

Early history of the house (as the stories have been handed down):

The house was built by James Hudson (nicknamed Slim) and his wife in 1937 during the East Texas oil boom days. The family children rode their horses and pony on the grounds, and made many memories. These were colorful days during an explosive time in Longview's growth, and the house was host to many of the area's movers-and-shakers. James (according to family info) was instrumental in bringing early businesses to Longview such as Johnny Cace's restaurant (to its original downtown location), Texas Eastman and others. To the south of the main house, there are ruins of the foundation and partial walls of a stables and (some say) servants' quarters. There was an old road that ran across the southern part of the property, formerly bounded by homes in the late 1800s and early 1900s, so that area is ripe for someone interested in looking for old artifacts. In about 1950, the house was sold to the Henderson family, who maintained ownership for over 50 years. The structure of the house, the room arrangement and many interior features remain original from the 1930s.


Chain link fencing covers the majority of the perimeter boundary. A few feet inside of this fence, woven-wire fencing has been built on most of the perimeter. There is also some cross-fencing of both types of materials.There is also a chainlink dog pen.

Metal entry gates open onto a 750 ft long paved driveway (with a bridge over a seasonal creek) that leads to the house on the hilltop.

Approximately 2 acres has been cleared to serve as pasture or extended front lawn area; large, mature trees have been left to provide a park-like setting (previous owner has grazed horses here).
