Area History and Amenities:
Known as the Secret Coast, this area of South Texas is rich with history from Native American tribes who subsisted off the fertile soils, abundance of game, fresh water and bounty of the sea to the arrival of Anglo Americans. Early explores like La Salle and De Leon discovered the area in the late 1600s establishing the first forts and planting the flags of France and Spain. Later in the early 1800s Martin De Leon establishes an expansive ranch and begins the ranching tradition that is still very much alive today. In the late 1800s European settlers begin arriving at the nearby port city of Indianola. During the Civil War the area was used as a shipping rout for the Confederacy and some believe German U-boats were active in the area during WWII.
Today, the area is wonderful mix of coastal and ranching lifestyles with a deep sense of pride and appreciation for its natural beauty.
