This is a scenic, historic, and relatively secluded property located on high ground just below and northeast of the hills known locally as the Tackett Mountains. The property is bound on the east by FM 3109, on the southeast by a 5 acre tract, and on all other sides by a large cattle ranch. The residence is located about 0.3 miles west of 3109 accessed by a graveled road. There is an old rock barn/stables with cattle pens on the premises.

The property ranges from an elevation of 1179 feet above sea level to about 1216 feet and is grassland pasture with mesquite, live oaks, post oaks and native grasses. Part of the pasture was put into Bermuda grass sometime in the past. It is surrounded by a good barbed wire fence. The house is located on the higher ground with a small fenced yard, (live oaks and hackberry within the yard), coop water, electricity and septic tank.

The old military road between Fort Belknap and Austin, established in the 1850's, passed through this property between the house and highway. The Belknap mountains near old Fort Belknap are on the northeastern horizon, Lookout Mountain is seen to the west, and Tackett Mountain, the sight of the Reverend James Tackett family's scrap with Comanches before the civil war, lies just west and southwest, rising to about 1365 feet above sea level.

The house is an older building, apparently an upgraded and expanded bunkhouse. It has had some recent renovation work, is tight, comfortable, well roofed and stable but is still an older farm house. The barn is an old rock barn with wooden stalls. Some of the rock work has developed cracks needing repair, some of the tin roof on one end was lost in a recent storm, but the rafters, joists, and stables are of good solid old wood.

The value of the place lies more in its location, its relative remoteness, its surroundings and surrounding view, and its general uniqueness.

Directions

From Graham, Texas take SH67 southwest approx. 9 miles to the community of South Bend, Texas and the intersection with FM 701. Take 701 southwest about 6 miles to the community of Eliasville, Texas. From Eliasville go west on FM 1974, crossing the bridge at the old mill site, about 0.5 miles to the intersection with FM 3109. Take FM 3109 north for about 3.8 miles to Looper Lane on the left. Take Looper lane west about 500 feet to the property entrance. The house sits on a hill about 1/4 mile up the hill to the west.
